About Us
Our Story
Established in 2017, our foundation is rooted in unwavering ethical values, driving us to redefine the norms in our industry. Setting ourselves apart from the mainstream, we embarked on a journey to offer a unique perspective. Proud members of the esteemed RHS Chelsea 2022 Rewilding Britain volunteer team, our commitment to excellence in landscaping is further exemplified through our role as volunteer landscaping contractors for the renowned RHS Tatton Park 2023 "Constructing Minds Garden." Here, we took on a significant role undertaking the intricate planting and soft landscaping, contributing to the garden's multi-award-winning success.
At the core of our philosophy is the harmonious blend of traditional craftsmanship and an enlightened, contemporary, and low-impact approach to landscaping.
We believe in crafting spaces that not only stand the test of time but also resonate with a forward-thinking ethos. Stay connected with our journey by following our Instagram feed, where we share insights into our latest projects and developments.
We take pride in championing local suppliers who share our commitment to quality. Moreover, our advocacy extends beyond landscaping to encompass conservation, social justice, and ecological projects. Keep an eye out for occasional appearances from Whisper, our beloved border collie, as we invite you to join us on this exciting venture.
Meet the team
Ed Bailey
Owner & lead designer and landscaper
Ed is the owner of Rewild Garden Design, lead designer and Landscaper. After achieving a BSc Earth and Environmental Science from Lancaster University he followed his love of adventure, particularly climbing and hillwalking and qualified as a multidisciplinary outdoor pursuits instructor. After several years living and working in Scotland and the Lake District he turned to a more creative career and retrained as a designer and landscape gardener. A passion for wild places and the great outdoors is deeply ingrained in all his design work as well as a dedication to sustainable construction practices. A dad of two, regarded as deeply uncool by his kids, Ed is now based in Leeds, West Yorkshire. He's dedicated to weaving elements of wild beauty and environmental consciousness into the designs. "Each project I undertake is a testament to my commitment to rewilding principles, creating spaces that allow nature and natural process to take centre stage, creating incredible, biodiverse, exciting gardens that challenge the typical garden norms".
Steve Milbourne
lead horticulturist and landscaper
Steve is our lead horticulturist and landscaper. Working on both our hard and soft landscaping projects alongside managing our clients private gardens, Steve provides year-round garden maintenance and development in our clients gardens. From getting on top of neglected spaces to working with clients who enjoy gardening but need help and direction to keep on top of their outdoor spaces. With over 5 years’ experience in both landscaping private gardens and maintaining large estate grounds, Steve brings valuable horticultural knowledge and experience to the team. His passion is for creating wildlife friendly gardens, with traditional cottage style gardens and productive gardens being his area of expertise. Steve completed his L2 apprenticeship in Horticulture at Pershore College, Warwickshire, whilst managing the grounds and gardens of a 23-acre estate in Ilkley, West Yorkshire. Whilst working as Head Gardener he has maintained and developed a varied range of gardens; from formal topiary, ornamental water features and manicured striped lawns to traditional cottage style gardens, herbaceous borders, productive kitchen gardens, allotment, orchards, and wildlife focused gardens including wildflower meadows, wildlife ponds, and woodland. Whatever your garden aspirations, we can help you achieve them through consultation, design, planning, and garden management services.
Colin Bailey
Ecologist, photographer and gardener
I have been a lifelong ecologist, photographer and gardener. I was always interested in the natural world and growing plants. A BSc in Marine and Freshwater Ecology at London University was followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and a Masters in Environmental Resource Management. Twenty five years followed working as an ecologist, lecturing, doing surveys, practical site management, working with industry, consultancy and charities. Having enjoyed that for over two decades, in 2002, I decided to explore a new direction which would allow me to be more creative. I realised that designing and building sustainable, wildlife gardens combined all my skills and experience. So after studying garden design at The English Gardening School I set off down that path and have not looked back.
Our 4 legged staff member in charge of walks, attention and treats. Totally unqualified in landscaping or design but with a level of enthusiasm that is unmatched by any of the rest of the team Whisper is a black and white furry ball of energy!
